What is the mortgage stress test?
The stress test requires you to qualify at the higher of 5.25% or your contract rate plus 2%. This ensures you can afford payments if rates rise. Our affordability calculator automatically applies the stress test to give you realistic results.

For homes up to $500,000: 5% minimum. For homes $500,001-$1,500,000: 5% on first $500K + 10% on the rest. For homes over $1,500,000: 20% minimum. Our down payment calculator shows exactly what you need and the CMHC insurance cost.
Can I get a 30-year amortization in Canada?
